Week of Nov.5th- 9th


Monday, 11/5/12
Daily Objective:
"I will...
  • pre-assess current knowledge of U3P2 words."
  • Organize ideas for writing using a graphic organizer."
  • Find contextual evidence to support examples of character traits & indirect characterization."
Procedure:
  • Take U3P2 pretest; check answers. (Introduce new words.) Assign Word Wisdom pages for homework
  • Merry-go-round? Invite students to take their Brainstorming Character Trait handout from last week around the room with them to note traits that have been posted around the room by the names of Crash characters.
  • Distribute Character Sketch Assignment & rubric; discuss expectations, deadlines and writing process.
  • Study the "25 Steps for Writing a Good Character Sketch". (We've already completed Steps 1-2 last week).
  • Complete Steps 3, 4 and 5:
    • Model how to complete the Graphic Organizer--as a class, complete one on the SmartBoard for Mr. Webb, as an example.
    • Begin completing a Character Sketch Graphic Organizer for your own character (Choose one). Use a book to note page numbers and to find specific quotes.
HW:
  • Finish your Character Sketch Graphic organizer by tomorrow-- It must include at least one specific quote for EACH character trait, along with two other specific examples from the text (at least one must be an action).
  • Pgs 56-58 due Wednesday; pages 59-60 due Thursday
  • Prepare for U3P2 posttest Friday


Tuesday, 11/6/12
Daily Objective:
"I will...
  • Organize ideas into a cohesive rough draft (including a title, complete sentences and paragraph form)."
Procedure:
  • Refer again to the"25 Steps for Writing a GoodCharacter Sketch". Complete Steps 6-12: Each step will be modeled for the class using Mr. Webb's character sketch as an example.
    • Create an introductory sentence and title (An example will be modeled in class)
    • Begin creating your own rough draft related to your Graphic Organizer. (An example will be modeled in class)
    • Create a summary sentence to end each paragraph (An example will be modeled in class)
HW:
  • Finish your Rough Draft (Steps 6-12) by tomorrow.
  • Word Wisdom pgs 56-58 due Wednesday; pages 59-60 due Thursday
  • Prepare for U3P2 Word Wisdom posttest Friday


Wednesday, 11/7/12
Daily Objective:
"I will...
  • Add transitional words to my writing to help connect ideas."
Procedure:
  • Check Word Wisdom HW for completion.
  • Switch rough drafts with a peer for editing/feedback. Discuss strengths and weaknesses. Make revisions based on their feedback, as necessary.
  • Complete Steps 13-14: Each step will be modeled for the class using Mr. Webb's character sketch as an example.
    • Add transitions to your rough draft (An example will be modeled in class)
    • Proofread for clarity.
  • Mini-writing conferences with Mrs. Tolin
  • Begin Steps 15-17, if ready.
HW:
  • Finish Steps 13-14if not finished in class. Ask for a home-editor to help with Step #14.
    • Optional-- Begin Steps 15-17 at home!!!
  • BRING YOUR FLASH/JUMP-DRIVE TO CLASS TOMORROW & FRIDAY!!!
  • Word Wisdom pgs 56-58 due tomorrow; pages 59-60 due Thursday
  • Prepare for U3P2 Word Wisdom posttest Friday


Thursday, 11/8/12
Daily Objective:
"I will...
  • check current understanding and use of U3P2 words
  • Make necessary revisions to writing to enhance clarity, grammar, spelling, detail and format.
Procedure:
  • Check Word Wisdom HW-- correct answers together in preparation for tomorrow's posttest.
  • continue mini-writing conferences with Mrs. Tolin
  • Complete Steps 15-17
  • Some students may be able to begin typing their final drafts in the computer lab (depending on computer availability)
HW:
  • Complete Steps 15-17 if not finished in class.
  • BRING YOUR FLASH/JUMP-DRIVE TO CLASS TOMORROW
  • Study for tomorrow's U3P2 Word Wisdom posttest


Friday, 11/9/12
Daily Objective:
"I will..
  • demonstrate mastery of U3P2 words
  • Prepare writing for publication and submission.
Procedure:
  • All students will go to the computer lab to complete Steps 17-22.
HW:
  • Complete Steps 23-24 as necessary. FINAL CHARACTER SKETCH (and all other accompanying paperwork) DUE MONDAY!!!!! (That's Step 25!)
    Make sure you have everything ready!
